White Christmas with Ricura Horchata

White Christmas hot cocktail with Ricura Horchata

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We’re traveling home to Louisiana today to spend the holiday with family. Even though we shipped most of our gifts (thank you, overworked UPS employees!!) my suitcase is still overflowing. Some of it is booze. Okay, a lot of it is booze. ‘Tis the season!

It’s true that a lot of our holiday traditions revolve around food and drink. In my family, we always bake and decorate gingerbread men, and my dad makes eggnog. One day I swear I’ll post his recipe! I know some people are squeamish about raw eggs (and did you know that aged eggnog is a thing?) but there are lots of other rich and creamy holiday drinks to partake of. Including this one!

White Christmas hot cocktail with Ricura Horchata

This warm holiday cocktail is made with Ricura Horchata, a liqueur made with aged Caribbean rum, heavy cream, and cinnamon. It’s inspired by the traditional Mexican beverage. Ricura has half the fat of other horchata liqueurs, and it is so delicious! It would be the perfect thing to pass around after Christmas dinner for sipping neat or adding to coffee. Or try mixing up this cocktail! Keeping with the theme of the liqueur, this drink is inspired by one I first had in Mexico and now make at home all the time. That one is made with hot milk, vanilla, sugar, and lots of cinnamon. The Ricura Horchata is the perfect boozy substitute for those last three ingredients. This is a decadent and delicious holiday drink you’ll want to make again and again!
